More details about Botox
A derivative of botulinum toxin, Botox functions as a muscle paralytic by blocking chemical signals from the nerves. Injecting small amounts into the facial muscles is a treatment widely in practiced (3.2 million procedures a year) to smooth wrinkles in between and around the eyes, as well as the forehead. After a topical numbing solution is applied to the area to be treated, we inject small quantities of this medication under your skin, requiring only a few minutes for the treatment. If you are unsure how to proceed with Botox treatments, you are welcome to ask for our opinion and we will always focus on the areas that are most concerning to you.
The most frequently treated areas are the glabella (also known as the frown lines, or the “11” that the muscles between your eyes create), the forehead to decrease or even resolve unwanted creases, and around the eyes, commonly referred to as “crow’s feet.” Most people have the best result with 16-24 units injected in each area. If you desire multiple areas to be treated, sometimes the muscles will overlap and you may need less total units. We are quite aware of budgets and will work within yours and try to achieve the most desired result. Please contract the injected muscles several times over the 2-3 hours following the treatment to be sure the medication is adequately and equally absorbed. Botox generally lasts around 3-4 months, and is recommended to be re-injected before the return of muscle function and keep those wrinkles at bay.
